(June 6, 2019 – Budapest, Hungary) – The Canadian women came up short in a close battle against the host nation, Hungary, at the FINA World League Super Final in Budapest. Both nations looked determined to secure the third place in Group B in the opening minutes of the game. Hungary, playing in front of their fans, opened the scoring on the counter-attack at 5:45 of the first quarter. Canada answered back on the next possession when Hayley McKelvey’s shot found the back of the net. Both teams exchanged goals just to see Hungary capitalize on the power play to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.

The second quarter was all offence with teams scoring a total of thirteen goals in the period. The Hungarians extended their lead to 4-2 in the opening minutes of the quarter. A converted penalty shot by Emma Wright, and a beautiful lob goal by Joelle Bekhazi, helped the Canadians even the score 4-4.
