Water Polo Canada has been selected, amongst eleven other National Sport Organizations (NSO), by the Canadian Olympic Committee for the 2017 RBC Training Ground Program. The RBC Training Ground program is designed to help NSOs identify talented athletes with Olympic Potential. In order to do so, local athletes between the age of 14 and 25 are invited to participate in one of the local qualifier events across the country. The performance benchmarks established by the NSO’s will be used to identify and recruit the most promising athletes. Through different physical tests, the athletes speed, power, strength and endurance will be measured.

The qualifier events have begun in British Columbia in January and will travel across Canada, with more than 25 local qualifiers taking place in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Based on their athletic performance, the top athletes from the local qualifiers will be invited to the RBC Training Ground regional events hosted in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.

This represents a great opportunity for athletes to open their horizons to new sports, such as Water Polo, and maybe consider it as part of their athletic pathway. Overall, this is excellent for the growth of our sport and national organization.
