Élyse Lemay-Lavoie started water polo in 2010, at the age of 16. She was previously a swimmer but was inspired by her father who played the sport. A year later, she qualified for the Canadian Youth National Team and, 11 years later, she represented Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games while. At the age of six, she dreamed of making the Canadian Water Polo Olympic Team while watching the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney on television. A centre forward, the Club Aquatique Water-Polo Montréal inc. (CAMO) athlete helped Canada win silver at the 2017 FINA World League Super Final and finish in fourth place at the 2017 FINA World Championships. Élyse attended the at the University of Hawaii where she played in the NCAA and received a degree in Women's Studies. She says she loves the sport because of the feeling she gets of giving everything in the water for and with her teammates. Having a great interest in the arts, such as drawing, painting and digital arts, she would like to pursue a career in this field, including graphic design.
