The Community- Sport Initiation water polo coaching program is a brand new coach education program within the Water Polo Canada coaching community.  This coach education program is extremely important to the growth of water polo in Canada.

The majority of Community Sport coaches are typically involved in the sport as a volunteer and for a short-period of time.  The type of athlete that a typical Community Sport- Initiation Coach will be coaching are athletes aged 12 and under (12U), or recreational/community water polo for older athletes.  In LTAD terms, a Community Coach will be coaching participants in the FUNdamentals, Technical Foundations, and Active for Life pathways
(please click here for information on LTAD) .

There are no pre-requisites need to enrol in the water polo Community Sport- Initiation workshop, and no prior water polo experience necessary.  The program has been designed for all coaching ages and levels of experience.  The workshop includes a DVD containing a description of the Community Sport water polo skills, rules, basic tactics, and other tools that will help the Community Coach make a difference in their community.  Lesson plans, activities/drills, and details about how children learn are also included in the Coach Toolbox.

Clubs, coaches, and city run community programs should contact their Provincial Sport Organization to organize a workshop.  The training process for the Community Coach is as seen below:
