Emma Wright

Emma Wright started playing water polo in 2005, at the age of 9, when her older siblings switched from their local team in Lindsay, ON to a club in Toronto called Shadow Water Polo Club. Too young to stay at home alone, her mom decided to bring her with them. Although she didn't like water polo at first, the sport grew on her quickly and she hasn't stopped playing since.

Emma’s debut with the Senior national team was in 2012 when the team competed at World League Super Finals. At 16, she was the youngest player on the Canadian senior national team who finished eighth at the 2013 FINA World Championships. Then, at 18, she was again the youngest player on the team that won the silver medal at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games. Emma became a co-captain of the senior national team in 2019, the year they won silver at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She was also a member of the team who won silver at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Other notable results in her career include contributing to the fourth place at the 2017 Senior World Championships, a silver medal at the FINA World League Super Final in 2017 and 2021, and silver and bronze medals at the Junior Pan American Championships in 2012 and 2014 respectively. She also took part in six Senior World Aquatic Championships.

Emma competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games alongside her sister Claire, which remains the best memory in her water polo career so far.

She plays the positions of center and left wing attacker. She has represented the Shadow Water Polo club and the University of California, Berkley, where she graduated in 2022, with degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, studying gender inequality in sports and the effects of social media.

One of his uncle is defenseman Jeff Beukeboom who played in the National Hockey League and won the Stanley Cup four times with the New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers.

Her other passions outside water polo include coffee, reading, traveling, and spending time with her wife, Myranda, their two dogs Lily and Dixie and their cat Otis.
