Water Polo Canada unveils 2024-2029 Strategic Plan

Thursday, November 28, 2024

Ottawa, November 28, 2024 - Water Polo Canada (WPC) is pleased to launch its new 2024-2029 Strategic Plan.

Following a yearlong process that included consultation with the Canadian water polo community at large, Water Polo Canada first updated its strategic plan with a new purpose, vision, mission and values.

Water Polo Canada then established three goals for the organization:
-Achieve sustainability and growth
-Meet performance targets
-Elevate the impact of our sport

Objectives for each of these goals were then built out across the three pillars of the organization: People, System and Business.

The Water Polo Canada 2024-2029 Strategic Plan is available at https://www.waterpolo.ca/content/strategic-plan.

A consultation process with the community
Production of the Water Polo Canada 2024-2029 Strategic Plan (the Plan) was led by the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC), which included Board Members Christine Preece and Gaelan Patterson, Water Polo Canada President Kathleen Dawson, WPC’s previous Chief Executive Officer, former WPC Director Paul Fritz-Németh and Past President Frank Meunier.

In support of the process, the committee conducted a survey to collect stakeholder feedback on the previous strategic plan and the current state of the sport in Canada. More than 600 respondents took part, including parents, players, coaches, clubs, officials, alumni, staff members and representatives from WPC’s Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs). Highlights of the survey are available at https://www.waterpolo.ca/content/strategic-plan.

The SPC then led virtual consultations with each PSO, followed by a workshop with the WPC Board of Directors to produce the first draft of the Plan. Ahead of its finalization, the Plan was then shared with WPC staff and National Team athletes and WPC’s member PSOs, offering them an opportunity to provide additional input.

“Water Polo Canada is very proud of its new strategic plan”, said Water Polo Canada President, Kathleen Dawson. “The Plan was built using feedback from individuals engaged in many aspects of Canadian water polo, with the goal of supporting the future of the organization and the sport at all levels across the country. Thank you to everyone who took part in this process!”
