Independent Third Party

Water Polo Canada has adopted the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP), which is in effect as of April 1, 2025.

Through the CSSP Rules, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) independently administers the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) for federally funded, national-level sport organizations by receiving and responding to reports of prohibited behaviour, and by developing and carrying out education, prevention, and policy activities.

Please have a look to the NEW COMPLAINT PROCESS

For concerns where the respondent (the person who engaged in maltreatment) is a Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) Participant, please contact the CSSP team with questions or for support here: https://cces.ca/contactCSSP

Water Polo Canada’s UCCMS (CSSP) Participants include:

  • Water Polo Canada Board of Directors
  • Water Polo Canada board committee members (to the discretion of Water Polo Canada)
  • Water Polo Canada staff
  • Water Polo Canada contractors (to the discretion of Water Polo Canada)
  • Senior National Team and Age Group National Team Athletes
  • Senior National Team and Age Group National Team Athlete Support Personnel (includes coach, trainer, manager, agent, team staff, medical, paramedical personnel)

Note: At this time, National Championship League participants have not been identified to complete this requirement.

As of April 1, the CCES will accept reports through an online report form and by phone - both methods allow you to remain anonymous if you wish. If you choose to share your name when you make a report, the CCES will not share it with your sport organization unless it is necessary to keep you or someone else safe, and will make every effort to get your consent beforehand.

Report online: https://cces.ca/report-safe-sport

Report by phone: 1-833-858-CSSP (2777)

Formal complaints involving non-UCCMS (CSSP) participants can be submitted to the Independent Third Party, ITP Sport, using the following link: https://app.integritycounts.ca/org/itpsport

If you do not know whether the respondent is a UCCMS (CSSP) participant or not, you may submit the complaint to either CSSP or ITP Sport and the matter will be referred to the appropriate organization.

The role of the Independent Third Party may include:

  • Provide confidential advice to individuals considering a complaint.
  • Refer individuals to legal, mental health or other support resources.
  • Review and analyze incoming complaints and determine whether they are admissible under WPC’s policies and Code of Conduct.
  • Determine the appropriate jurisdiction to manage the complaint (CSSP, WPC, Province/Territory or Club).
  • Appoint an investigator or discipline panel, as required by WPC policies.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all parties involved in a complaint, operating independently of WPC.

The existence of this Independent Third-Party does not prevent individuals from trying to resolve matters at the club or provincial level or directly with Water Polo Canada if they are comfortable in doing so
