Provincial Sport Organization Volunteer of the Year Awards

Water Polo Canada presents its Volunteers of the Year during its annual general meeting, customarily held in September. The group of outstanding individuals were selected with the help of representatives from provincial water polo organizations, and each was recognized for its significant contribution to the sport in the past year.

   
   
   
   

 

Water Polo Canada's Tom Watson Volunteer of the Year Award

Water Polo Canada’s Tom Watson Volunteer of the Year Award nationally recognizes and celebrates an individual who has shown unconditional commitment to the development of water polo in Canada. Water Polo Canada believes in and is committed to supporting excellence by recognizing annually the exceptional performances of our volunteers, without whom our sport would not succeed.

The objective of this award is:

  • To honour the best representative(s) of sport
  • Stimulate our representatives in the pursuit of excellence
  • To favour the visibility of excellence throughout the country

Nominations may be submitted by WPC Members (affiliated Provincial Sport Organizations) and Registrants (clubs, athletes, coaches, officials, delegates, and volunteers). 


Nomination Criteria

  1. All individual nominees must be a WPC Registrant in good standing.
  2. All individual nominees must be a Canadian citizen.
  3. All individual nominees must demonstrate exceptional volunteer contributions in promoting and developing the sport at the club, provincial, national and/or international levels during the past year.
  4. All individual nominees must have made a significant contribution to the development of the sport in Canada during the past year.

NOTE: Nominations are kept confidential and only reviewed by Water Polo Canada and Selection Committee members.


Nomination Selection Process
  1. The WPC CEO will appoint a Selection Committee composed of approximately 3-5 individuals. No later than 45 days following the nomination deadline, the Selection Committee will review the nominations, verify the nomination information, and select the award winner. The Selection Committee shall have the right to bring forth additional award candidates for consideration before adjudication begins. The Selection Committee has the right not to give an award.
  2. Award winners will normally be announced virtually by press release. Winners shall be recognized in various association communication vehicles.
